Production Syndicate 2017
Support our 2017 production of Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Zazà as a member of our Production Syndicate. Opera Holland Park is known for performing late 19th and early 20th century Italian opera and for staging lesser-known operas, bringing works that have been forgotten or are rarely seen to the stage. Zazà is our ‘rarity’ for 2017.
With Anne Sophie Duprels in the title role and conducted by Peter Robinson, Zazà has been on our must-perform list of operas for several years and our new production follows the critically acclaimed 2015 concert performance by Opera Rara. This offered, to many, their first taste of Leoncavallo’s largely forgotten opera and its success demonstrated the interest and enthusiasm for a fully staged production of Zazà.
As a Production Syndicate member, you will play an important role in supporting Zazà from start to finish, with unique insights into production planning and rehearsal process. Most importantly, you will be supporting OHP in its ambition to share these rarely performed operas with new audiences.
“Zazà is a brilliant example of verismo opera, working the themes of love, motherhood, family life and the innocence of children and does it to a far greater degree than any other opera had up to that point. It is richly orchestrated, with languid, melodic lines and is enormously emotional, particularly the scene between the protagonist and her lover’s child which is unusual. Its status as a rarely performed opera makes OHP the perfect home for its stage revival.
We have the expertise, reputation and audience interest in rarities, having been at the forefront of extending verismo repertoire for many years and with a long tradition of staging romantic Italian opera. It is incredibly important that we continue to stage rarely performed operas to educate and expand the knowledge of our patrons and ensure such works are not forgotten. We look forward to introducing a new generation to Zazà.”
