The 2019 season promises to be another deliciously varied programme demonstrating what Opera Holland Park does best: offer high-quality, enjoyable opera to the public whilst extending the repertoire. We are excited to be able to share the news of future seasons earlier than ever before so that audiences can really sense our direction of travel for the coming years.

We are also delighted to be hosting the European Opera Directing Prizewinner in 2019. The winner of the 10th European Opera Directing Prize (EOP) will direct Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. Launched in 2000, the EOP has been hosted by opera houses across Europe but 2019 will be its first time in the UK.
The EOP is run jointly by German-based philanthropists Camerata Nuova and Opera Europa, the professional body representing 176 opera companies in 42 countries. It is a biennial contest offering talented young opera directors the chance to present their ideas to a wider audience by partnering with a prestigious opera house.

Applicants are required to register by October 2017, with concepts for Manon Lescaut due by December 2017. The finals will take place at Opera Europa’s 2018 spring conference in Zurich, where the four or five finalists will present their concepts to a panel of judges including our Director of Opera James Clutton. The winner will be announced at the conference, and will then have a year to develop his or her concept, in time for the run of Manon Lescaut at OHP in June 2019.
